Abstract

371,682. Warp beams. SHAW, W., Cop Royd, Honley, near Huddersfield. June 29, 1931, No. 18684. [Classes 142 (ii) and 142 (iv).] The end portions of a yarn mass wound upon a beam are reinforced and protected by a flangelike structure c which is built up during the beaming operation by inserting at intervals strips a of thin soft paper each having applied down one edge a strip b of thick, pliant material such as cardboard. Connection between the two portions of the composite strip may be by adhesive or by other means and the thickness of the outer portion in relation to the inner portion is such that the wrapping of a determined number of turns of yarn over the latter will build the yarn mass to the thickness of the outer portion. As an alternative to using separate strips at each end of the beam, a sheet of soft paper, suitably wider than the yarn mass and provided with a strip of cardboard or the like down each of its edges, may be employed. Strips and sheets of composite material may also be inserted alternately.
