Abstract
The conversion of alkaline indigo paste into the leuco compound by means of hydrogen and a nickel catalyst is facilitated by the addition of an alcoholic compound such as ethyl alcohol, glycol, or sugar. For example, 5 parts of cane sugar or glycol or 16 parts of ethyl alcohol may be added to a paste containing 16 parts of indigo in 44 parts of caustic soda solution. The continuous hydrogenation process described in Specification 328,104, [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], may be used.ALSO:The conversion of alkaline indigo paste into the leuco compound by means of hydrogen and a nickel catalyst is facilitated by the addition of an alcoholic compound such as ethyl alcohol, glycol, or sugar. For example, 5 parts of cane sugar or glycol or 16 parts of ethyl alcohol may be added to a paste containing 16 parts of indigo in 244 parts of caustic soda solution. The continuous hydrogenation process described in Specification 328,104, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], may be used.
