Abstract

271,569. Marschalk, C. H. Feb. 26, 1926. Leuco-indigo; leuco compounds of vat dyes, esters of.-Vat dyes are reduced to their leuco compounds by treating a suspension of the dye in an anhydrous organic solvent with hydrogen at ordinary or increased pressure in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. The resulting suspension of the leuco compound in the organic solvent may be used as such for the preparation of esterified derivatives. Examples are given of the reduction of indigo in suspension in dry dimethylaniline; the product mav be directly esterified with sulphuric chlorhydrin.
