Abstract
Sulphuretted dyes of the anthraquinone series which dye vegetable fibres fast shades from the hydrosulphite vat are obtained by heating 2-methylanthraquinone, or an o -halogenized derivative thereof, with an aromatic compound containing the p-diamine grouping, and sulphur; in place of the p-diamine compounds which yield p-diamines during the reaction may be used. According to examples, (1) 2-methylanthraquinone and benzidine are heated with sulphur, the product freed from sulphur, dissolved in sulphuric acid, precipitated by water and the dye paste purified by treatment with oxidizing agents such as a solution of sodium hypochlorite; the product dyes cotton reddish yellow-shades; the same product is obtained from o -dichlor-or w-trichlor-2-methylanthraquinone, benzidine, and sulphur heated in trichlorbenzine: (2) A greenish yellow vat-dyestuff is similarly obtained from 2-methylanthraquinone, sulphur, and p-nitraniline, or p-phenylenediamine, or p-aminoazobenzene; analogous dyestuffs are obtained from substitution products such as chlor-p-nitraniline or chlorpphenylenediamine; the greenish-yellow dyestuff is also obtained by heating o - trichlor - 2 - methylanthraquinone with p - phenylenediamine and sulphur in boiling naphthalene. o -Trichlor-2-methylanthraquinone may be prepared by a process similar to that of example 7 of Specification 16632/05.
