[Classes 3 (i) and 3 (ii).] A sign comprises a parabolic reflecting surface B either carrying the advertising matter or arranged behind a stencil, light from above being either transmitted or reflected by a surface D arranged along the focal line of the surface B and then reflected by this surface to the observer. As shown, the light is first transmitted through the screen D, which comprises a number of differently coloured transparent strips d mounted above the casing A. The legend is formed on the surface B, which is of silvered glass or plated metal, either by blacking out the parts y and leaving the parts x reflective, or else by forming the letters in relief. The reflector B is preferably mounted on pivots c so that it may be rocked by vanes a<1> actuated by the wind, or alternatively by clockwork, electricity or the motion of a vehicle on which the sign is carried. The screen D or the whole sign may also be rocked. In an alternative form, the surface B is inclined downwardly and the screen D comprises an upwardly inclined parabolic reflector arranged beneath it. A plurality of the signs of either type may be arranged one above the other in a glass-fronted casing.
