Abstract

370,548. Saddles. JELLEY, H., Wynbourne, Warwick Road, Solihull, near Birmingham. Feb. 6, 1931, No. 3768. [Class 136 (iii).] In order to prevent chafing of the rider's thighs, the sides or parts of the sides of a saddle top are so moulded or shaped that the side parts or flaps are permanently incurved or given a pronounced rolled-under section, so that the edges of the incurved parts are located underneath the seat, but are normally separated by a substantial clearance, so as to allow space for the passage of the saddle pin and for inward deformation under load. Fig. 4 shows a cross section at the region of maximum incurvature. The top is preferably produced by die-moulding from a fabric-reinforced and vulcanized rubber composition. One moulding operation may give the material an initial shape approximating to that of an ordinary top, while one or more succeeding moulding operations may give the permanent incurvature to the skirts and adjacent side parts.
