431,219. Saddles. JELLEY, H., and JELLEY, J., Drilastic Works, Warwick Road, Tyseley, Birmingham. March 19, 1934, No. 8581. [Class 136 (iii)] In cycle saddles of the type in which the top or cover rests on tensioned coil or other springs, the top or cover is of seamless composite form, moulded and vulcanized from rubber compositions (with a fabric reinforcement if desired) so constituted and localized that the part resting on the springs is protected from deformation and wear normally caused by such springs, while the side-skirts or flaps retain their flexibility. As shown, the top comprises an outer layer c provided with flexible skirts c<1> and formed of soft-vulcanizing rubber composition, and, at the region supported by the springs b, a layer d of stretch-resisting fabric and a thicker reinforcing-layer e of hardervulcanizing but flexible rubber composition. In order to reduce friction between the layer e and the springs b, the composition forming the layer e may include powdered talc, French chalk, or other material possessing lubricating properties. The peak and cantle ends of the top are formed with downturned edge flanges perpendicular to the seating surface, to facilitate attachment to the frame by clips &c. Specifications 289,200 and 339,027, [both in Class 136 (iii)], are referred to.
