Abstract

<PICT:0370279/III/1> <PICT:0370279/III/2> In apparatus for evaporating liquids tending to deposit salts &c. in which the liquid is sprayed through preferably flared nozzles 10 into an evaporating chamber, incrustation of the nozzles is prevented by irrigating them externally with liquid from a pan 16, Fig. 2. The apparatus may be applied to plant of the separate heater and evaporator type in which vapour from the evaporator 5 is compressed by steam in an ejector 4 and used to heat the liquid in a heater 1, liquid from which is used to supply the pans 16 through a pipe 7. In the production of salt from brine the residual liquid in the evaporator 5 is re-circulated to the heater 1 by a pump 9 along with brine from a gypsum separator 13, while coarse salt is obtained in the pan 12 by evaporation of brine by vapour passed through a pipe 11.
