369,833. Lenses. ZEISS, C. [Firm of], Carl Zeiss-Strasse, Jena, Germany. July 10, 1931, No. 19829. Convention date, July 17, 1930. [Class 97 (i).] A photographic objective of great light-transmitting power consisting of a dispersive lens arranged with intervening air spaces between two converging lenses of which one is compound and consists of a converging and a diverging element, is characterized by the features (a) that the ratio of the radius of curvature of the front surface of the single dispersive lens to that of the first refracting surface of the objective, i.e. r3 /r1, is numerically greater than 2À5, (b) that the ratio of the radius of the last refracting surface of the objective to that of the second surface of the single dispersive lens, i.e. r7/r4 is numerically less than 1À75 and less than the ratio r3 /r1, and (c) that the vertex distance between the first and second lenses I, II of the objective is less than 1À5 times the vertex thickness of the lens II, the ratio between these distances being preferably less than 1À33. The cemented surface of the compound lens is convex towards the interior of the objective. Numerical data are given.
