Abstract
<PICT:0369255/III/1> <PICT:0369255/III/2> In apparatus for the electrical precipitation of gases, the collecting electrodes are vibrated by means of an electromagnet 4 supplied with alternating current of ordinary frequency, and the armature 5 of which is secured to or may be constituted by the collecting electrodes 2. Several parallel electrodes may be connected by a cross-member 6 disposed at right-angles to the plane of the electrodes, which may also be provided with gratings 3 also connected to the member 6. A spring 7 is provided to assist in maintaining the vibrations. The member 6 may be connected to the middle of the spring 7 which is then fixed at both ends. The discharge electrodes may also be vibrated, for example as shown in Fig. 2, wherein the discharge electrode system, consisting of wires 12 stretched between members 2a, is suspended from insulators 10, which are mounted on flexible metal plates 5 vibrated by the electromagnet 4. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that interrupted continuous current may be used to feed the electromagnet. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 216,789 and 230,841, [both in Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.].
