369,049. Cycle gear cases. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Chemical House, Millbank, London, GREENWOOD, J. E., 1, Stubbs Road, and BOWKETT, N. W., The Greensward, Penn, both in Wolverhampton. April 30, 1931, No. 12748. [Class 136 (i).] A gear case for pedal and motor cycles, adapted also to constitute a detachable chain stay for the cycle frame, comprises two longitudinal parts 2, 3, the inner part 2 having welded to it a stiffening-member 10 disposed where the ordinary chain stay would be. The rear part 14 of the stiffening-member 10 is bent outwards to the outer part 3 and is welded thereto; the end 15 passing through the part 3 and being forked to receive the end of the rear wheel spindle. The stiffener 10 may be formed of a strip of metal perforated at 11 for lightness. Bridge members 18, 19 are welded &c. to the stiffener 10 and to the outer part 3, so as to stiffen the combined gear case and stay and enable it to be bolted to the main frame of the cycle.
