Abstract

[Class 36.] In a flexible cable more particularly of the trailing type shown, each core comprises a number of conductor wires 7 helically applied about a centre 5 of soft rubber which is rendered inextensible by a textile cord or strip 6, such as whipcord or heald cord, embedded in it. The core is preferably formed by extruding the rubber centre 5 about the textile cord 6, the conductor wires 7 being stranded about the centre after the rubber has been partially vulcanized. After rubber insulation 8 has been applied to each core and the several cores of the cable are stranded together, a rubber sheathing 3 is applied, and the whole is vulcanized. The rubber centres or the textile cords embedded therein may be of different colours to enable the cores to be identified. A protective braid 4 may be embedded in the rubber sheath 3. Each conductor wire 7 preferably comprises a group of stranded fine wires.
