368,328. Bottle caps. WADE, H., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(Crown Cork & Seal Co., Inc. ; Highlandtown, Baltimore, U.S.A.) Nov. 29, 1930, No. 36026. [Class 125 (iii).] A bottle cap comprises a metal shell a, a cushion insert of natural or artificial cork &c. c, and a centre disc of lesser diameter d of hard glazed paper, Express paper, sulphite paper, &c., varnished on the side next the bottle contents with a resistive varnish, a disc of guttapercha e bonding the paper disc and cushion disc together. The paper and guttapercha discs may be cut simultaneously from two separate superposed webs d<1>, e<1> by a heated punch g and die-ring h, the further downward motion of the punch pressing the discs into place within the cap, the heat and pressure bonding the discs into place. If it is desired subsequently to apply a wax coating, a small quantity of Cerasine &c. is run in and a heated plunger j descends into the shell, carried by a carrier i, to spread the wax over the exposed surfaces of the discs. The varnish preferably comprises a resin, chinawood oil, a drier, and a plasticizer and is stated to be resistive to certain acids and to alcohol.
