Abstract

<PICT:0368022/IV/1> <PICT:0368022/IV/2> In the dry spinning of artificial filaments, a downward spinning method is employed in which the evaporative atmosphere is drawn off from a point at or towards the upper part of the cell, and by means of a stationary deflector situated at one side of the cell at a short distance below the spinning nozzle, the atmosphere travelling up that side of the cell is made to pass obliquely or horizontally across the face of the nozzle. The process results in filaments of bulbous cross section. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a baffle-plate C is provided on one side of a spinning cell A at a short distance below the nozzle D which is supplied with spinning solution by the pipe E. Air is drawn by suction through the cell. In Fig. 1, the air passes through slots F in the pillar G supporting the nozzle and then passes through the pipe H to a solvent recovery plant. In Fig. 2, the air is drawn through the pipe K to the recovery plant.
