Abstract

Manganic acetate is obtained by the oxidation of manganous acetate in acetic acid solution by means of a permanganate.ALSO:The oxidation of acetaldehyde to acetic acid is effected in presence of manganic salts, preferably manganic acetate, which are initially present, and may be prepared by oxidizing a solution of manganous acetate in acetic acid with potassium permanganate. p The oxidation of the aldehyde may be effected by passing oxygen or air through the liquid aldehyde containing the catalyst, and pressure may be employed. The oxidation may also be effected with the aldehyde in vapour form in conditions known for the catalytic oxidation of aldehyde vapour.
