Abstract

367,446. Cardboard &c. cartons. BUREN, J. VAN, 750, Grand Street, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A. Nov. 21, 1930, No. 35108. [Class 18.] A rectangular tubular carton of cardboard or the like having closing flaps at one or both ends, has one or more of the end flaps rectangular and abutting against the front and back sides of the carton when it is closed and ears extending from one of the flaps attached to the front and back sides of the carton are folded against and fixed to the other sides of the carton. As shown at least one of the tabs 15, 16 is rectangular and the ears 21 .. 24 extending from the flaps 19, attached to the back 11 are folded down on to the sides 12, 13 and fixed thereto ; the ears 21, 22 extend beyond the width of the back 11 by an amount equal to the width of the tongue 14 by which the carton is secured in tubular form so that a number of blanks may be cut from a sheet without waste. In another blank the tongue 14 is in line with the ears 21, 22 and a pair of short ears are formed at each end of the blank from parts of the flaps 17 to extend from the flaps 19, 25 and fold against the side 12 or the ears 21 may be short and corresponding short ears extending from the flaps 19, 25 may be formed from parts of the flaps 15, 17. The carton may be formed from a pair of blanks, one of which has securing tongues extending from the back panel and the ears extending from one of the end flaps thereof and the other blank provides the front and other two sides and end closing flaps.
