367,343. Gas-purifying materials and processes. JOHNSON, J. Y., 47, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges. ; Frankfort-on-Main, Germany.) Oct. 15, 1930, No. 30868. [Class 55 (ii).] In the purification of gas mixtures containing ammonia and more hydrogen sulphide than is required for interaction with the ammonia, all of the ammonia is initially .washed out of the gases and then, before or preferably after the benzene wash, the excess of hydrogen sulphide is withdrawn by dividing the gas stream and the remaining part washed with the liquors used for the removal of ammonia in the undivided gas stream. The ammonia wash comprises a faintly acid thionate or sulphite bisulphite liquor. The hydrogen sulphide in the divided stream may be oxidized catalytically to sulphur dioxide before removal. The gas withdrawn may be used directly for heating the retorts, or may pass through a separate purifier.
