[Class 79 (iii).] Diesel-electric locomotives are provided with at least two power units, each comprising an internal-combustion engine coupled to an electric generator, and a number of driving axles each driven by a pair of electric 'motors, the motors of each pair being fed from separate generators. The generators. A, B, driven by internal-combustion engines V, are carried by a frame D mounted on bogies C. Each driving axle E is driven by two motors a, b, the generator A supplying a distributing system G from which all the motors a are fed, whilst the generator B feeds the motors b through a distributing system. H. In a modification alternate axles only are motor-driven, the wheels of intermediate axles being coupled to a driving wheel. In another form, the driving axles are on the bogies.
