[Class 126.] In means for closing and opening the fire of a range, comprising a cover or hot plate 16 movable over or away from the top of the fire, a plate 18 at the back of the space above the fire is movable in relation to guides 19, 21 so that it may be supported in an inclined position, shown in Fig. 1, to uncover an opening to the chimney flue, or a substantially vertical position, shown in Fig. 2, in which it closes the opening. In the form shown, the lower edge of the plate slides on horizontal guides 19 having stops 20 to limit its forward movement, and with or without a rack on one or both of them to retain the plate in intermediate positions. The top of the plate is guided in an up and down path by the tops 21 of vertical continuations of the rails 19. A damper 11 controlling the boiler flue may be provided. In a modification, the lower edge of the plate 18 slides on the plate 16, and the upper edge is guided by pins sliding in vertically recessed guides on the sides of the stove. An aperture 31 in the top of the oven is provided with a removable cover 30 and affords access to the chimney flue for cleaning purposes. In the combination range shown, the gases pass through apertures 15 in the sides of the firebox and thence upwardly to the oven flues,. the gases passing up one side of the range being carried by the oven bottom flue 41 to the other side, and passing, with the gases from the other opening 15, up the side of the oven to the oven top flue.
