367,053. Vehicle &c. lamps. TAYLOR, H. D., Stancliffe, The Mount, York. Nov. 21, 1930, No. 35050. Addition to 344,382. [Classes 39 (ii), 75 (ii), and 75 (iv).] Reflectors ; mounting reflectors on lamp casings ; bulbs filaments. -In a vehicle or like lamp in which the reflector comprises a main paraboloidal part P, P1, Fig. 3, and a compound supplementary part having a paraboloidal portion p, p1, and a spherical portion b1, b2, the centre of curvature of which coincides with the focus R of both paraboloidal portions and with the midpoint of the filament of an electric lamp bulb, the whole surface of the glass of which is clear or only very slightly diffusing, as described in the parent Specification, the filament f1, f2 is arranged centrally within a spherical bulb L having an internally reflecting silvered zone C, D adapted to intercept widely divergent rays which do not fall on the part P, P1 and project them back on to the part p, p1. As shown in Fig. 2, an independently controlled supplementary filament e, f may be arranged in front of and slightly above the main filament f1, f2 and be surrounded by a metal shield sh adapted to prevent rays of light from the supplementary filament falling on the lower half of the lamp reflector. The supplementary part of the reflector may be formed in the manner described in the parent Specification or it may be formed from a turned casting of a light alloy or from silvered glass of constant thickness, and the positioning spring n may be associated with a second spring S comprising a tubular portion and elastic arms formed by radially cutting a dish-shaped steel or other elastic metal plate. The spherical portion b1, b2 is formed with a cylindrical or slightly diverging front extension b1, t1 which is splayed out to engage the rear of the portion P, P1 and then curled round like a tube or turned up as a single or double flat rim, or is fitted with a flat metallic ring r. The lamp casing B may be spun from sheet metal or formed as a thin casting, and the front ring y1' y2 may be enamelled white.
