Oct. 31, 1930, No. 32855. Convention date, Oct. 31, 1929. [Class 38 (v).] Pneumatic blow-outs ; pneumatic actuation.-- Gas-blast switches have their break-point a<1> arranged at the outer ends of obliquely-arranged insulators h<1> and interconnected by a lead e and contacts d<1> bearing on the movable contact rods c<1>. The latter are coupled by rods i<1> to a crosshead on a hollow rod k carrying a piston r in a cylinder s. Compressed air is admitted through an opening o and ports m<1>, m<2>, m<3> in a hollow guide n for the rod k, and passes through an opening q to the upper side of the piston r, which is thereby moved downwards to open the switch. As the opening movement is performed, air is cut off by the successive closure of ports m<1>, m<2>, m<3> by the descending tube k, thereby obviating a shock at the fully-open position. Air also passes through the tubes h<1> to provide the blow-out effect. Closure is effected by admitting air through the opening t beneath the piston. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 356,221.
