Abstract
366,562. Slaughtering pistols. DUCHENET, J., Modern Garage, Belley, Ain, France. Nov. 1, 1930, No. 32946. [Class 28 (ii).] A safety slaughtering pistol is made with a cartridge chamber 12 in the rammer 10, the explosion of a blank cartridge therein causing the forward thrust of the rammer limited by a stop on the barrel, and the spent cartridge being simultaneously disintegrated and ejected. In the form shown in the Figure, the barrel 6 is slidably arranged in a carrier 3 hinged at 2 to a handle 1. A blank cartridge is loaded into the chamber 12 while the carrier 3 is open, then the carrier is closed over the handle 1 and looked by a spring catch 4. The barrel is then firmly secured to the handle by a bayonet joint 7. A hammer 31 is then cocked against its spring 32 until a trigger 33 engages with a bent 35 in the hammer. A deflection of the trigger by a finger releases the hammer, which strikes a firing-pin 29, thereby firing the cartridge. The rammer 10 fitted with a piston 9 is driven forward until arrested by a buffer against a stop 13, which is provided with a screwed stud 24 for securing the stop to the barrel in one of three positions according to the extent it is desired the rammer shall project beyond the barrel. The stud 24 slides in a slot 19 in the barrel and can be screwed down into one of three seats 20, 21, 22 in the barrel. When the rammer is thrust forward, the cartridge is disintegrated and ejected from the chamber 12, and the gases escape by holes in the barrel. A ring 36 is hinged to the endpiece 37 of the handle 1 for suspending the pistol. In a modification, the barrel is mounted in a carrier slidable on a tube on the handle 1, the tube being provided with lateral holes for the insertion of the cartridge.
