[Class 99 (ii).] Tubes a for heat exchangers are provided with solid longitudinal fins arranged in one or more groups, and each fin in a group is substantially parallel to the other fins. The free ends of the fins lie in a regular polygon surrounding the tube and in a plane perpendicular to its longitudinal axis. The groups may be disposed in the form of a cross and may be rectilinear from their roots to their free ends or may be curved to meet the tube normally as shown in Fig. 8. In another arrangement fins extending to the corners of the polygon as shown in Fig. 3 or the mid points of sides as shown in Fig. 4 may bear branch fins which form parallel groups with other fins attached to the tube. The tubes may be so stacked together that the sides of each polygon may coincide with those of the surrounding polygons as in Fig. 2. A tube may be provided with separate sets of fins along its length which may be staggered in relation to one another. The fins of a group may also terminate at different distances along the tube.
