Abstract

365,552. Mechanical presses. LACEY, E. G., 10, Victoria Crescent, Abbotsford, Victoria, Australia. Oct. 20, 1930, No. 31450. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1929. [Class 87 (ii).] A veneer &c. press comprises thin metal envelopes between which the sheets are assembled and to which heated pressure liquid is admitted. The envelopes are assembled between adjustable upper and lower frame members, and are connected with a source of pressure liquid and exhaust, the connections comprising a byepass whereby the temperature and pressure may be controlled. The press comprises frame-members 10, Fig. 1, on which a deck 14 lined with metal 15 is supported. A similar lined deck 30 is supported on frame members 27 which are adjustable vertically by means of screwed shafts 16 operated by bevel gearing from a hand-wheel 24<1>. The envelopes 36, the sides of which are convex, are supported by slotted links 34 and are connected at one end to a common pipe 42 supplied with water under pressure which is heated by being passed through a heater core 44. The other ends of the envelopes are connected with a common discharge 52 ; the byepass 56 is controlled by a cock 57, and a thermometer 54 and pressure gauge 55 are provided in the discharge pipe 52. The rate of discharge may be gauged by means of a fitting shown in Fig. 7 and consisting of a perforated pipe with a closed end; as the rate increases the water issues from an increasing number of nozzles.
