365,029. Making hollow bars. FAGERSTA BRUKS AKTIEBOLAG, Fagersta, Sweden. Sept. 25, 1931, No. 26811. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1930. [Class 83 (iv).] Cores.-Austenitic steel cores are removed from hollow drill steel and like hollow bars after formation by rolling or otherwise reducing hollow blanks, by heating to a temperature above 50‹ C. and then tensioning and drawing out at such temperature. A core containing 12 per cent of manganese and 1 per cent of carbon may be heated to from 100 to 200‹ C. The temperature may be slightly higher than that most suitable for the stretching operation in order to compensate for losses during operation. The heating may proceed continuously during operation by introducing electric current to the bar by the holding jaws of the tensioning apparatus or by contacts engaging the cut ends of the bar.
