364,849. Pneumatically conveying cotton &c. from gins &c. PLATT BROS. & CO., Ltd., Hartford Works, LEECH, I., 197, Abbey Hills Road, and BRADLEY, T. H., 100, Brompton Street, all in Oldham. Jan. 12, 1931, No. 967. [Class 120 (i).] In apparatus for pneumatically conveying cotton &c. through a trunk e, Figs. 2 and 3, for example from gins to condenser cages for supplying baling presses, the cotton is fed into a device comprising two compartments a, b having movable valve members c, d arranged to open and close alternately and to prevent inlet of air to the trunk e so that one compartment can be filled while the other is emptied, the valves being automatically operated but both valves never being open at the same time. The valves c, d which, when closed, form the bases of the compartments a, b are operated by lever arms c<2>, d<2> on the valve spindles c<1>, d<1> actuated by timing cams g, h provided on either side of a gear wheel i driven from the ginning roller shaft l through a gear wheel k. Each cam comprises a plain periphery having a gap g<1> or h<1>, the valves being shut when the arms c<2>, d<2> engage the periphery and opening when the arms fall into the gaps g<1>, h<1>. The ginned cotton is delivered over the stripping roller o into the trough a, the valve c being closed, the suction in the trunk e conveying the cotton from the compartment b, Fig. 5. The valve d then closes, Fig. 3, and the valve c opens delivering the cotton from compartment a to compartment b, Fig. 4, the sequence of operations then being repeated.
