Abstract
658,648. Bag conveying apparatus. RANK, Ltd., J., and SMART, F. J. Jan. 14, 1949, No. 1080. [Class 78 (i)] Conveying means for cleaned fabric bags, comprising a pneumatic conduit b for receiving the bags to be conveyed, the conduit being connected to a bag inlet a and to a source of suction p through a separating chamber n having an air pervious cross-conveyer or bag diverting device q therewithin which is adapted to pass the bags out of the air stream to a trapped bag delivery passage or chamber m. General, Fig. 1.-A bag enters at nozzle a, passes up pneumatic conduit b and is passed sideways from the suction stream through p by endless belt q to fall into delivery passage m having three hoppers s, 3 and w controlled respectively by grid valve t and plate valves 4 and x, the three valves being operated to discharge the bag whilst preventing an uprush of air into the pneumatic system. Additionally, pedal g operates counterweighted valve c to vent conduit b to atmosphere through aperture d whereby, after the bag is cleaned by placing it over nozzle a, said bag may be released by depressing pedal g, reversed and then, by releasing, g passed up the nozzle for conveyance; air inlet permits supplementary flow of air; and slide 9 having perforations 8 produces an adjustable air flow to the left and out through p whereby dust carried over with the bags can be swept away to p. Valves of bag discharge, Fig. 3.-Shaft 18 drives shaft 23 which has the two cams 24 and 25 (see below) fixed thereupon. Cam 24 opens the three valves t, m and x. Thus cam 24 is connected to gate 4 through roller 26, pivoted lever 28, rack 30, pinion 31, adjustable pin-andslot 32 and counterweight 7, the latter together with gate 4 being fixed to the shaft 6. Cam 24 is similarly connected to gate x through roller 27, pivoted lever 29, rack 33, pinion 34, adjustable pin-and-slot 32', counterweight 2 and shaft z, and is connected therefrom to gate t through pin-and-slot 36, link 35, counterweight v and shaft u, the pin-and-slot 36 permitting the operation of gate x even when gate t is jammed open with a bag. Pneumatic connection of hoppers of bag discharge, Fig. 4.-Cam 25 (see above) operates slide 16 through follower 38, pivoted lever 39, and link 40, said slide having a passage 17 therein which co-operates with the three ports 13, 14 and 15 of which port 13 leads to hopper 3, port 14 leads to atmosphere, and port 15 leads to hopper w. Said slide thus connects either 13 to 15 or 15 to 14. Alternatively, slide valve 16 may be replaced by two pivoted valves. Operation of bag discharge, Figs. 3 and 4.- As the bag drops into hopper s, cam 24 opens valves t and x and closes valve 4 so that the bag falls down into hopper 3. Cam 24 then closes said valves t and x and cam 25 then pushes slide 16 to the left to connect ports 13 and 15 to equalize the air pressure of hoppers w and 3, the cam 24 then opening gate 4 to allow the bag to drop into hopper w. The slide 16 then moves to the right to connect ports 15 and 14 so that hopper w is at atmospheric pressure. Cam 24 then opens valves t and x to allow the bag to drop out through valve x into the atmosphere.
