[Class 34 (ii).] In apparatus for drying timber &c. which is stacked on trucks and rolled into the drying chamber, supply and return ducts for the reversible passage of air through the chamber have partitions with regularly spaced small orifices the aggregate area of which is less than half, preferably about one-third, of the cross-sectional area of the ducts. Fig. 4 shows, in plan apparatus with two chambers 16 provided with walls 36, 30 composed of a number of perforated plates, between the chambers and the supply and return ducts 32, 28. Reversal of air flow from the fan 18 and heating and humidifying apparatus 20 is obtained by operating dampers 65 on rock shafts 66. In one direction, Fig. 4, air passes to ducts 58, 32, and through the chambers 16 to the duct 28, then through a throat 59 and its open sides 64 to a lower duct 52 and the fan. When reversed, Fig. 5, air passes through the throat 59 to duct 28, through the chambers 16 and ducts 32. 58, and through openings 62 to the lower duct 52 and the fan. A small proportion of fresh air may be admitted by an adjustable door 54, a portion being discharged through the chimney 56.
