Abstract

Freshly spun artificial silk, particularly viscose cuprammonium silk, is wound on light tubes which are deformable but which during spinning and other operations are provided with internal supporting members; the wound artificial silk is washed, aftertreated, and if desired dried, and then after removal of the supporting members but while still on the light tubes is supplied for direct further working up, with or without twisting. The spinning tubes proper may be made of parchment paper, press paper, impregnated paper, thin aluminium sheet or similar light material, and may be perforated. They may have beadings at the ends for the purpose of strengthening the edges. The withdrawable supporting members may also be in the form of tubes which are also perforated and they may be made of aluminium or ebonite. They possess a suitable formation so that they can be arranged on to the known spinning bobbin heads of the spinning machines, and also on the attachments of the creel arrangements for the purpose of washing and aftertreating. For easy withdrawal of the inner member, it is preferable to insert an intermediate layer, such as a fabric or net of textile materials or of metallic threads, between the inner and outer tubes. The withdrawal of the inner tube is also facilitated if the two tubes are made slightly conical.
