Abstract
Freshly spun artificial silk such as viscose or cuprammonium silk is wound on to perforated tubes in the form of a cop winding, i.e. in inclined conical layers, and is then treated on these tubes with washing, desulphurizing, bleaching, decoppering, acidifying, or scrooping liquids which are passed by suction or pressure through the thread layers. After drying, the wound tubes or bobbins may be transported and employed in textile operations. The filaments may be removed from the bobbins by overhead withdrawal. The bobbins may be in the form of cops or cop spools. Tubes of presspaper, parchment paper, impregnated cardboard, thin sheet metal such as aluminium sheet, and similar light material may be used. In order to support these light tubes during the winding, after-treating, and drying operations, they may be placed on inner supporting bodies provided with mouthpieces which ensure a convenient mounting on the spinning machine and also on the wet-treatment appliances. The supporting bodies are preferably provided with perforations adapted to the perforations of the readily deformable spinning tubes.
