Abstract

363,798. Window opening and closing apparatus. GORNALL, W. H., 8, Merthyr Terrace, Barnes, London. Nov. 29, 1930, No. 35989. [Class 20 (iii).] Screw-and-nut window raising and lowering mechanism is characterized by the provision of a nut b which is extended the full length of travel or the full height of the sash. The nut is supported by springs c within a tube a held between brackets f<1> on the sash, and each tube is provided with a gland through which passes the screwed rod e. The actuating mechanism comprises bevel gears and a handle e<6>, and a cross shaft e<7> and bevels, or a flexible shaft convevs the drive to a screw and nut on the opposite side of the sash. Rotation of the tube b is prevented by a pin-and-slot connection with the tube a which is non-rotatably held in the brackets f<1> by a parallel part of the gland a<1>.
