363,733. Pressure-regulating valves. SIMPSON, J. F., Gas Works, Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, PEEBLES, W. C. and PEEBLES & CO., Ltd., Tay Works, Bonnington, Edinburgh. Oct. 2, 1930, No. 29468. [Class 135.] Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A pressure regulator adapted to replace the usual retort house governor without alteration of the existing supply and byepass connections has a main valve housed in a casing with inlet and outlet branches substantially at right-angles. The main valve is actuated by compressed gas or air acting on a double-acting piston controlled by an auxiliary valve actuated by inlet pressure. In the form shown in the Figure a main butterfly valve 3 is mounted on a spindle 3<1> carrying a pulley 10 wrapped by crossed tapes secured to a member 11 on the pistonrod 12. The auxiliary valve is coupled by a lever 16 loaded by a spring 161 to a diaphragm 6 acted on by inlet pressure admitted through a pipe. 19. In a modification the butterfly valve is replaced by a piston valve connected either directly to the actuating piston or by crossed tapes wound on a pulley to a cylinder arranged at the side.
