Abstract

363,705. Buildings ; tubular building elements ; chimneys. GERNAERT, J., 529, Avenue Louise, Brussels. Sept. 18, 1930, No. 27929. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1929. [Classes 20 (iv), 25, and 87 (i).] Tubular elements 1, A, B, Figs. 1, 2, and 9, of relatively long length, are superposed without mortar joints and laid so that, in adjacent walls, one set of tubes passes midway between the notched adjoining poles. The tubes may interlock by concave faces 2, or they may be plain tubes, Fig. 5, with interposed pieces 9, 10. Packing 3 may be used in the joints, such as sheet lead, or woven bands of raffia, aloe, esparto, or similar material, and fillings 4 may be added where required to form a pier. Contiguous ends may be joined by internal tubular connectors, Figs. 6, 7, and 8. The tubes may be silicious and transparent, or may be formed of pumice-concrete with a thin coating of fibrous cement, and may be reinforced with metal and with cores a, Fig. 9. The construction may be made rigid by vertical rods or tubes traversing the structure and clamped at the top and bottom. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the modification shown in Fig. 7 (Cancelled), and the application of tubular ring elements in the construction of chimneys, columns, and linings and tubbing for wells, mine shafts, and tunnels, as shown in Fig. 4 (Cancelled). In Fig. 7 (Cancelled), the axes of the tubular elements are co-planar in courses of adjacent walls. Fig. 4 (Cancelled) shows such circular structures formed of hollow rings interlocking by recessed and edged joints without mortar but with sheet packing as described above. The rings may be formed of fibrous sheet material, or of bands of fibrous material wound helicallv and covered with cement. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
