363,699. Handkerchiefs. CELLULOSE PRODUCTS, Inc., Shamokin, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Wandel, K. ; 19, West 55th Street, New York, U.S.A.) July 23, 1930, No. 22224. Convention date, Jan. 28. [Class 141.] A paper article simulating a handkerchief &c. comprises a number of superimposed sheets of soft cellulose tissue compressed together in a narrow strip around the edges so as to cause the sheets to adhere at thess portions but elsewhere to be movable one on the other. Lines of indentations may be formed along the inner margins of the pressed areas. The portions of the sheets lying within the pressed areas may be creped or may be embossed to simulate the appearance of a woven fabric or of damask linen. The articles may be made in continuous s lengths and cut off across the centre of the compressed transverse portions. In a. machine for making a continuous length of such articles, sheets of paper from rolls 1a, 2a, 3a, are fed between pairs of pressure rollers 14, 15 arranged at each side of the sheets, and then between a roller 17 and a segmental roller 16 which forms a transverse pressed area twice the width of the lateral compressed areas.. If lines of indentations are to be formed along the inner margins of the compressed areas, the strip then passes beneath lateral indenting wheels 19, 20 and a transverse segmental roller 21 provided with a double row of pins 22, 23. Rotary knives 24, 25 are provided to trim the edges of the sheets.
