Abstract

363,085. Endless belt or chain conveyers. BARKER, E., East Cottage, Benton, and FEATONBY, J., Bernicia, High View, Wallsend, both in Northumberland. Nov. 11, 1930, No. 33902. [Class 78 (i).] A conveyer for lump or granular material comprises a sectional framework in which is mounted an endless chain or belt having on one side of it a plurality of blades, which conduct the material on to the chain or belt. The conveyer is simultaneously moved towards or away from the material by projections on the chain or belt engaging sprockets which rotate screws, mounted on the framework, in stationary nuts. As shown, the chain b, Fig. 1, passing over power-driven tumblers f having driving-pieces g, is provided with blades c, d, Fig. 3, which conduct the material on to the chain to convey it to a discharge aperture y. Big lumps which do not fall through the aperture are removed by a plate z. Projections on the chain engage sprockets k on spindles k<1>, Fig. 13, to which are keyed pinions p meshing with pinions q, fixed on screws m mounted on the conveyer framework. These screws are mounted in nuts n, held rigidly in position by brackets o, so that as the screws rotate they move the framework towards the material. To reverse this movement handles x, Fig. 8, are operated to engage pinions p<1> with the pinions q, pinions p becoming disengaged. In a modification, Fig. 16, this lateral movement of the conveyer is obtained by mounting the framework on wheels A, driven by a bevel wheel B keyed to k<1> and meshing with one of wheels D, D<1>. These wheels are mounted on a shaft H with a clutch G between them, the shaft H being at 90‹ to the spindle k<1> and .connected to the wheels A by reduction gearing. The bevel wheel B may be replaced by worm gearing. The sections of the conveyer framework are connected by knuckle joints but may be rigidly connected. The blades may be adjusted so that the chain can be rotated in a reverse direction.
