Abstract

362,192. Suspending cables. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd. and BOYSE, C. O., Hamilton House, Victoria Embankment, London. Dec. 30,1930, No. 39166. [Class 36.] In order to apply local extra weight to the insulator strings of a'cable line where the vertical load is small due to the conductor itself or where the swing of the insulators must be kept within small limits, the usual light skeleton structure of flash-over guard ring at the lower end of the insulator string is replaced by a heavy solid guard ring which may weigh between four and five hundred pounds. In the embodiment, the guard ring is formed as a bar having a slot 2 to house the conductor, and the conductor clamp 3. A dished recess 4 in the upper surface of the bar is provided with a boundary wall 5 shaped to the same dimensions and outline as the usual type of guard ring. A flat metal plate 7 passing through a slot 6 in the bar connects the clamp 3 to the lowest insulator 8 of the string. Bolts 9 passing through bosses 11 on the bar connect the dead weight guard ring to the plate 7. The guard ring is preferably formed in two parts which make joint in a vertical plane passing through the conductor axis, and which are held together by the bolts 9 and by bolts 12 passing through end lugs 13. Holes 15 are provided for drainage of the central hollow.
