Abstract
363,015. Suspending cables. STEATITE & PORCELAIN PRODUCTS, Ltd., 56, Victoria Street, London, and LOWN, C. R., 9, Lower Lickhill Road, Stourport, Worcestershire. Sept. 23, 1930, No. 28417. [Class 36.] A suspension clamp of the self-releasing type comprises side bars a<1>, a<2> connected together by end bars a<3>, a<4>, each formed with an outwardly flared aperture a<5> which is cut away at its upper part. Clamps g, h, grooved internally and fitted with aluminium liners g<5> to receive a cable c, and coned externally to fit the apertures a<5>, are keyed together for longitudinal movement by depending lugs h<1> on the clamp h which engage grooves g2 in the clamp g. The lower clamp g forms the end of an arm g<1> which has, at its inner end, laterally projecting pins g<3> to engage outwardly dished grooves e<1> of a floating member e. The member e, positioned between the bars a<1>, a<2>, is grooved on its upper surface to receive the cable c. The side bars a<1>, a2 are pivotally mounted on trunnions d<1>, d<2> formed on suspension straps d. Lugs d<4> on the tower ends of the straps d are.adapted to strike and raise the member e when sufficient angular movement takes place between the bars a<1>, a2 and the straps d, e.g. if the cable breaks. Lugs d<8> on the bars d engage in vertical slots e<4> in the member e. On breakage of the cable, the member e, released from pressure, tends to rise and withdraw the clamps g, h through the action of the studs g<3> in the grooves e<1>. Should the clamps g, h bind through the unbalanced pull of the broken cable, the whole clamp will be drawn to one side and lugs d<5> on the straps d will come into engagement with the bars a<1>, a2, the lugs d<4> at the same time striking up the member e.
