Abstract
362,155. Lock nuts. STOLL, A., 4850, Bellevue Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Dec. 3, 1930, No. 36431. [Class 89 (i).] A nut or bolt head is provided with an external flared skirt with its end of minimum diameter contiguous with the under side of the nut for the reception of a split washer which has an inner wall with an inclined base approximately of the same inclination as that of the skirt. The nut 5 has shoulder 6 externally flared over which is sprung a split washer 8 having a corresponding flare. In a modification the washer has a double flare whereby it may be put in place with either face adjacent the nut. For ease in assembling the lower part of the flared skirt may be bevelled. For the purpose of assembling the washer on the nut, nuts! are fed down an oscillating shoot 72 to spaces 76 in a rotary disc 78, whilst the washers are similarly fed down a shoot 88 to spaces 82 in a disc 80. The discs 78, 80 are oppositely rotated and timed so that the nut and washer are opposite each other on a horizontal diameter and thus brought together.
