[Class 38 (v).] A variable electric resistance is formed of a film of beaten or electrolytically deposited gold or gold alloy on a nonconducting backing, said film being cut in the form of a flat spiral or helix and a strip of soft conductive material such as lead being secured, prior to cutting, on the foil transverse to the cuts, and cut with the film of resistance material. Contact with the sections of the strip which form tappings in the resistance is made by a slider on the lead strip. Specifications 265,263 and 305,243, [both in Class 41, Electrolysis], are referred to.
