Abstract
361,672. Shoe trees. WHITTON, C. R., 24, St. Giles Street, Northampton. Dec. 24, 1930, No. 38862. [Class 17 (iii).] In a shoe tree, filler, or stretcher, particularly a hollow display form of celluloid fibre-board or canvas open at the bottom, an extensible stretcher bar is provided adjustable by an operating member movable transversely to the direction of movement of the ends of the bar. A hollow rectangular casing 1 houses the ends of a pair of aligned sliding bars 2, the outer ends of which are secured to flanges at the bottom of the form. The adjacent ends of the bars 2 abut against the sides of a wedge 5 slidable through slots in the casing 1. A thumb piece 8 facilitates adjustment, and a bent end 7 prevents loss of the wedge. The inner ends of the bars 2 may have lugs engaging slots in the casing to prevent the bars leaving the housing. In a modification, the wedge 5 may be formed with inclined slots engaging lugs on the bars 2 to move these positively in both directions.
