Abstract

The husks of cereals which have been separated from the kernels in a wet process of reduction are stated to be useful in the cellulose industry, more particularly as the raw material for the manufacture of celluloid and of artificial silk.ALSO:Cereals are reduced by stirring them up in a small volume of water at 60-65 DEG C. for about 15 to 20 minutes so that a portion of the husks becomes separated before the kernels swell in the water and can be separated off preferably by flotation in cold water. The grains are then dried preferably by warm air and the remainder of the husks removed. The kernels are ground to flour, and the two portions of husk mixed together. The separated husk are used as the raw material in the cellulose industry more particularly in the manufacture of celluloid and artificial silk.
