Abstract

361,139. Treating slag. REICHE, L. VON and GIERSBACH, J., Oberscheld, Dillkreis, Germany. Dec. 3, 1930, No. 36519. [Class 22.] Molten slag is converted into a dry porous mass by feeding it, together with water, into a continuous movable trough formed on the periphery of a wheel, the trough being divided into compartments by cross ribs the height of which is not sufficient to cause the slag in one compartment to be separated from that in an adjoining compartment. A cooling current of air, steam, &c. is directed on to the surface of the hot slag. As shown, slag 2 runs down a channel 1 into a trough 3 in the periphery of a rotating wheel 4 to which a stream of water is fed from a pipe 5. Cross ribs 3<1>, Fig. 3, divide the bottom of the trough into compartments. Water, air, or steam is blown on to the surface of the slag through a pipe 7.
