Abstract

360,902. Optical sound-recording apparatus. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-, 28, Southampton Buildings, London.-(Siemens & Halske Akt.-Ges.; Siemensstadt, Berlin.) Aug. 12, 1930, No. 24163. [Class 40 (ii).] Comprises an arrangement for the monitoring of sound-film recording in which the light used for monitoring is derived from the modulated light beam before it impinges on the film, the area of this beam which is not used for recording being utilized for the monitoring purpose. Light from a source 2 is reflected by an oscillograph mirror 3 which is vibrated in accordance with the sound waves to be recorded. Two mirrors 5, 6 are placed in the path of the reflected light with a space between them equal to the length of the slit in a screen 4 through which the light passes to impinge upon a film 10. The part of the light beam reflected by the mirror 6 acts upon a selenium cell 7 which is connected to a loud-speaker for monitoring purposes. The light reflected by the mirror 5 is caused to impinge upon a ground-glass screen 8 upon which a scale may be provided for comparing the amplitude of oscillations of the light beam with the maximum amplitude that may be recorded.
