Abstract

360,548. Brake shoes and linings. MORGAN, CROSSLEY, & CO., Ltd., Ducie Mills, Miles Platting, Manchester, and WRIGLEY, S., 117, Balfour Street, Oldham. Sept. 2, 1930, No. 26140. [Class 103 (i).] A friction lining for brakes is made from impregnated fibrous material compressed to the required shape and provided with openings extending from front to back whereby water between the friction surfaces may escape. The lining comprising layers 5, 6 is provided with holes 7 aligned with corresponding holes in the shoe 8. Hollow wooden pegs, tubes, or tubes inside wooden pegs are driven through these holes and conduct moisture &c. to transverse grooves 12 in the back of the shoe. The pegs &c. may attach the lining to the shoe or rivets 13 may be provided for this purpose. In a modified form the transverse grooves 12 are on the inside face of the shoe between the lining and the shoe 1. The lining may be made sufficiently thick to constitute the shoe also and the pegs are extended into the shoe holder.
