Abstract

Saponaceous cleaning compositions; insecticides.--Soaps prepared from ammonia, amines, or alkali metal base have worked into them at least 5 per cent of true sulphuric acids, or their water-soluble salts, of fatty acid esters in which the sulphuric group is contained in the alcoholic component and the acid component contains at least 8 carbon atoms. The esters of the acids of animal and vegetable fats and oils are specified. Proportions of sulphuric acids specified are 10, 20, 30, 50, 80, 100 to 1000 per cent of the soap. Soap substitutes, salts, protective colloids, e.g. vegetable gums and starch, organic solvents, and glycerine, perfumes, tar, sulphur, nicotine, or other cosmetic, pharmaceutical, germicidal, or insecticidal agent may be added. In an example, 80 lb. of the neutral sodium salt of the condensation product of oleic acid chloride with isethionic acid, 15 lb. of sodium palmitate, and 5 lb. of sodium perborate are mixed. Sulphurated fatty acid esters.--The sulphonic acid esters may be prepared by the condensation of: (1) ethionic acid or carbyl sulphate with higher fatty acids; or (2) alkali metal salts of such fatty acids with halogenated derivatives of ethane monosulphonic acid; or (3) halides of such fatty acids with isethionic acid; or (4) esters of such fatty acids with hydroxylated derivatives of ethane monosulphonic acid. Specifications 19759/12, 253,105, 262,178, 267,924, 269,134, 280,110, 284,367, 285,174, 303,379, [all in Class 91, Oils &c.], 340,272, 343,098, 343,872, 343,899, and 354,500 are referred to.ALSO:Sulphonated fatty acid esters may be prepared by the condensation of (1) ethionic acid or carbyl sulphate with higher fatty acids; or (2) alkali metal salts of such fatty acids with halogenated derivatives of ethane monosulphonic acid; or (3) halides of such fatty acids with isethionic acid; or (4) esters of such fatty acids with hydroxylated derivatives of ethane monosulphonic acid.
