Abstract

358,547. Grinding. HOE, R., Hyde Park, New York, U.S.A. July 2, 1930, No. 20102. [Class 60.] Disc apparatus.-A unit for driving various devices detachably hinged thereto comprises a motor 3 and gearing in a housing 5 on a support 1, 2, Fig. 1, and may include means for attaching a further device, such as a grinding or polishing wheel, without hinges. The motor shaft 4, Fig. 3, drives a shaft 16 through reduction gearing 23, 24 and, through further reduction gearing 25, 26, a shaft 17 in reverse direction, the shafts 16, 17 being carried by a frame 20 secured to the housing 5. A hinged device is swung to engage its shaft 35 in a bore 41 of the appropriate driving-shaft a clutch pin 36 then engaging notches 37 in the bore 41. Devices not required to be hinged, such as a grinding or polishing wheel 44, Fig. 8, may be directly mounted in the shaft 16 or 17, the spindle 45 having a clutch pin 46 and spring-pressed balls 47 engaging a retaining groove 43, Fig. 3, in the shaft bore 41.
