358,138. Exciting dynamos. HANSELL, J. B., 121, Eccles Old Road, Pendleton, Manchester, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. July 8, 1930, No. 20725. [Class 35.] In a direct-current dynamo for arc-welding having a back-compounding winding in series with the arc and in parallel with an adjustable resistance, an autotransformer is provided, having one wind- 'ing in series with the back-compounding winding of the dynamo and the other in series with the resistance. In the arrangement shown, the winding 10 of the autotransformer 8 is in series with the back-compounding winding h of the dynamo 1. The other winding of the autotransformer is divided into sections 9<1> .. 9<4> alternating with the sections 7<1> .. 7<4> of the resistance, which is provided with an adjustable tapping 11. When the transformer and resistances are separate each has an adjustable tapping. The transformer may have a core, which may be continuous or gapped.
