[Class 46(ii).] A plastic reproduction a of a tract of land is illuminated from all sides by oblique light as from a ring of lamps b whilst a photographic negative transparency is made from it in a camera e for the purpose of reproducing a map-printing block. Screens d may be used to modify the lighting. The negative may be taken through a prism. The relief a may be modified by first colouring it black (or white), and then spraying it with white (or black) from all sides in a substantially horizontal direction. In a modification, two originals are used-the positive relief a and a negative relief cast from it, and either or both may be coloured in the manner described. A composite negative may be made in the camera e by exposure to the two reliefs ; or separate transparencies may be made from the reliefs, and be printed in superimposition.
