[Class 97 (i).] Separate foreground pictures and background pictures are printed in paired relation on a kinematograph film, each background picture having superposed upon it a mask of a foreground picture, and the two pictures are projected simultaneously on to the screen. The film may be prepared by making separate negatives of the background subject, and of the foreground subject in front of a plain dark background, printing a positive of the foreground, treating it to eliminate detail so that it may serve as a mask, printing images 5 in alternate spaces on the final positive film, from the background negative and the mask in superposition, and printing images 6 in the remaining spaces, from the foreground negative. The projector for the film may have two lenses, a double picture shift, &c., to effect simultaneous superposed projection of each pair of images. A modification in the manner of preparing the film comprising the production of a background negative embodying the mask in its images is described.
