Abstract

512,608. Colour photography. KODAK, Ltd., MARRIAGE, A., and SELMAN, R. F. W. Dec. 21, 1937, No. 35319. [Class 98 (ii)] A colour transparency containing coloured part images corresponding to the colours of the original is combined with a masking transpar-. ency containing a neutral image or images constituting a record of the colours of the original but complementary in density to and of lower contrast than those of the main transparency, and the resulting combination is used for printing. The main transparency may be an additive or subtractive multi-colour record and either a positive or a negative, and the transparent masking print .is obtained from it by printing on to a panchromatic emulsion. The masking transparency may also be formed in a colour transparency produced by reversal by leaving some of the first developed image in situ or by forming an unreversed image in a separate layer. When the combination is printed to yield an intermediate transparency for further printing, the contrast of the masking transparency is made high. The invention may be employed for reducing the luminosity contrast of transparent multicolour elements as described in Specifications 440,032, 440,089, 447,092, 475,784 and 475,786.
